Betrayals Strange Angels Book 2 Lili St Crow Books

Betrayals picks up about a week after "Strange Angels" ends. Dru Anderson and her friend, the newly made loup-garou Graves, find themselves in a school for young djampirs and werwulfen. Dru has been promised that she will be safe from Sergej, the vampire who killed her father and is now out to kill her. But Dru's not happy at her new home. She feels that she's being overprotected and under taught. No one wants to educate her about the new world she finds herself in or teach her how to protect herself. At the same time, the djampir who saved her before, Christophe, is being very secretive and elusive. He wants her help him find the person who betrayed her location and almost got her killed in the previous book. And it looks like the betrayer is still up to no good when Dru is attacked at school.

I found this book to be more enjoyable than "Strange Angels." There's more character interaction and Dru has opened up a tiny bit. Although Dru feels like an outsider as the only girl at school, this adds to the interactions between her and the other characters. The romantic possibilities are elaborated on, with both Graves and Christophe as viable boyfriends. There are a good amount of humorous moments, as well as a lot of action. There was good world building in the previous book, which continues in "Betrayals." We learn a lot more about Christophe and a little more about Dru's mother. We find out more about the abilities of the individual supernatural species, as well as their history. The only complaint that I have about this book is a minor one having to do with the author's writing style. She tends to use abstract imagery and repeats certain phrases constantly. It's less distracting in this book than the previous one though.

I highly enjoyed this book and recommend it to both YA and Adult readers.

Betrayals Strange Angels Book 2 Lili St Crow Books Reviews

In Betrayals, book 2 of the Strange Angels series, we find Dru and Graves at a schola where Christophe has promised that she will be safe. Turns out her mother was part vampire and has passed that part along to Dru but she won't reach full power until she "blooms." As the only female in a school full of boys Dru feels out of place and alone at times. Graves has been accepted by the wolf boys and taught to fight whereas Dru is allowed to skip class and is always protected by someone. The discovery that someone in the schola is a spy and that Dru's mother was killed by none other than Christophe's father rocks Dru's world as she debates on whether or not to leave her friend Graves behind and just escape. I'd go into detail but I don't wanna spoil it too much. I don't usually like sequels more than the first ones but in this case I did. Christophe is mentioned more in the second book and is kinda introduced as a potential lover. However I can't deny the chemistry between Graves and Dru. Even though they are friends he clearly cares for her. He's always defending her and starting fights if someone picks on her. Dru is always thinking about him and how hot he's becoming. Dru makes a decision at one point to leave him behind but she decides against it because in the end he's all she's got. Once again the author repeats herself. Also Dru's feelings about Graves and Christophe are like a yoyo always bouncing back from one to the other. In the end I think it comes down to the fact that Graves seems to be the one who'll be there for Dru when she needs him.

This is a fabulous sequel and I'm so ready for the third one!
Kick-ass, with a bit of a raunchy flavor, the Strange Angels Series has been promoted to a favorite YA series in my eyes. I really enjoyed Strange Angels and Betrayals was a highly competent follow-up, not the best, but I'm definitely anticipating reading Jealousy. There were a few problems that I found within the book, but besides those minimal flaws, the book was hard hitting, fast paced, emotional and well written.

REVIEW Ensconced firmly into the new world Dru Anderson has just discovered, the Order has taken her in as an oddity and a rare gem...a female dhampir. She's been enrolled in a small schola and placed into remedial classes until she blooms. They are treating her like fine china, she can't even spar with the boys. And boys boys there are. She is the only female is a school full of teenagers, and in their midst is a traitor, someone who wants her dead.

Chistophe has disappeared and Graves has become reveared among his wolfy peers as another oddity and rare gem, the loup garrou. Dru is alone, alone with her thoughts her fears and the sudden onslaught of a new feeling, blood lust. And as the plot thickens around her and the suckers begin to attack, Dru thinks she might just be a sitting duck and it's time blow this taco stand...

With a slow start and a bit of confusion, I didn't really hit this book feet first like I did with the first installment. St. Crow has an interesting technique of highlighting Dru's thoughts within dialogue. So this can get a bit confusing as you are reading. The inner dialogue was thick in the beginning with Dru practically in need of lithium she was so mentally unstable. By a third in, she had stabled out and was starting to think coherently so the book settled and began to catch my interest and from there it was a non-stop read.

I really enjoyed the blooming relationship with both Graves and Christophe, and I can't wait to read the third installment and see if she settles on a winner. Vamp vs. Wolf. Nor original, but the ideas that surround them are. Christophe is very different than any other vampy character that I've read. When their inner vamp is revealed, I'm sure they are the only vamps that get instant highlights...

This is also the only book that I haven't really picked teams. I was Team Christophe in the first book, but Graves grew on me in Betrayals.

RECOMMENDATIONS I highly recommend reading Strange Angels before undertaking Betrayals. Gritty but still PG-13. Nothing too heavy for happy teens.
